Vulcanite Jewelry - Heart Pendant

DESCRIPTION	Beautiful Victorian Vulcanite Heart Necklace with Cut Steel. Cut steel jewelry was fashionable in Europe during the latter part of the eighteenth century and continued to be so well into the nineteenth century. It had a dual purpose: it was used as a substitute for metals as well as for diamonds. During the many years of mourning for Prince Albert Vulcanite which is a black rubber was also stylishly used in jewelry. This beautiful heart has a cut steel center and has small carvings on each side hung on a antique silver chain. The chain measures 11" in length and the heart is 1 inch in length and 3/4 inch in width. This is a lovely antique piece of jewelry!
